Hi Darla -- I just wanted to drop you a note about our babies.  We took them to Paradise Ranch for their first major outing with other horses.  Kato is such a doll.  I really like him.  He continues to have the horseanalty of my old Arab Kosby who turns 23 this spring. Kato is very willing, goes anywhere and does not get shook up.  The first day out he was a bit slow but I took a lesson with Mindy and now I know exactly what he can do!  He is great.

Red Fox was very good too.  He was a bit of a handful for Doug the first day.  He doesn't know how to conserve his energy yet, but the second day he was just beautiful.  Doug also took a lesson with Mindy.  He was grinning from ear-to-ear when he got back and is now a gaiting fool! He even said he would never ride anything other than a Rocky again!

Again thanks for the blessings of a beautiful, well mannered horse!  See you on the trail.

Dear Darla,

Greg and the girls and I went on lots of family rides over the summer. Every one a memorable experience with our cherished Rockies! Solo is coming along nicely and so is Bay. They are naturals on the trail! They are surefooted, don't spook and go through water like fish. They love sticking their noses down in water and splashing back and forth. I didn't think it could be possible but I enjoy and adore my Bay more with every ride I take on her. I really think she enjoys trail riding as much as I do!

THANKS,
Jen

P.S. Your newsletter is terrific. Keep up the good work!

Hi Darla,

This is a picture Linda Clarke took of John and me on Tip and Sax the day of Tip's evaluation for gait certification in June.

The boys are a lot more shaggy now, but still as handsome and well behaved as ever.  We constantly thank you for offering us these fine horses.

We had a nice ride on them this afternoon--just down the road so they wouldn't get hot and sweaty, but we did ask them to cross a creek through deep mud.  Neither wanted to get sucked into the poor footing, but each did, without a lot of fuss.

We marvel at the difference between these young 'uns and our retired older trail horses.  I can relax and enjoy the scenery rather than always being on alert for problems.  John is delighted at how willing and sound Tip is.

The best evidence of how special the Rockies are is that, at age four, we were able to pull them out of the pasture, saddle up, and take them out on the trail after not having ridden them for months.  I didn't believe this was possible, but I'm alive to tell the tail (sic).

We remain very grateful.

Best wishes for a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Carolyn Claudy

Dear Darla,

Thank you for helping us with the registration process. We took Cody and Peace on a trail ride yesterday, and I can not say enough about them. They are absolutely wonderful. What a great ride. Cody really steps out. I can really tell he is going to do great on the endurance rides. I'll be training him over the next two years to make sure he's fully developed before I do a long ride.

Nancy loves Peace. She is so mild. Nancy doesn't have to post and can stay off her knee. Here are a few pictures of them. They have a good home. People are starting to show interest. We had someone on the ride that was amazed at what they can do. We are going to have a big Horse Lover's Party in our gallery in January. We will show your DVD.

We will be in Ennis after Christmas and we'll stop by.

Thanks for everything, God bless,

Doug Van Howd, Auburn, CA
